Reiterations in Glass

Weeks Gallery, Jamestown Community College
October 6 - November 30, 2023

Linked by the use of repetition, this exhibition features a breadth of techniques and perspectives in the ever-expanding field of Glass. Each artist on view was previously featured in Corning Museum of Glass’s publication New Glass Review 42. Curator Erika Diamond was introduced to many of the exhibiting artists as one of the jurors for that publication, alongside Susie Silbert, Sarah Darro, and Simón Ballen Botero. This curatorial project acts as an extension of that process of discovery and as a way to further connect the JCC community to the resources of the nearby glass museum.

Eriko Kobayashi melds a minimalist aesthetic with maximalist desires in her cast cubes. Siena Hancock endeavors toward ethical practices in glass, using by-products of the casting process itself. Percy Echols and Dan Mirer highlight certain aspects of the studio process like the interconnectivity of breath and glass-blowing. Also referencing the way the human body moves, David Schnuckel and Anjali Srinivasan reflect on the potential for softness through breakage or heat.
