Imminent Peril - Queer Collection

2018 - 2020

Imminent Peril - Queer Collection is an ongoing series of fashionable safety vests made with bullet-proof Kevlar material.

Initially created in response to the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting, they are specifically tailored and designed to protect members of my own queer community, reflecting their individual ideas around personal safety and style. When exhibited, each vest is displayed with a short description of the participants’ personality and aesthetic, intentionally connecting the viewer more intimately to the people behind the garment.

These vests are not memorials to the fallen or hypothetical. Instead, they celebrate real people living authentic and meaningful lives. This series questions who is valued in our contemporary American society and who has the privilege of being both seen and protected.
