Eggshell Miniquilts

2023

Quilts are a symbol of comfort and protection.

They hold stories and represent familial connections. These hand-quilted objects address the vulnerability and self-preservation negotiated during human interaction. They question both our desire for and discomfort around closeness.

As a queer woman, I walk through the world with a few extra layers of caution. I think a lot about protective exteriors, perceived fragility, and the paradox of safety and visibility. I find softness through breakage and strength in numbers. These eggshell mini-quilts are an extension of my Eggshell Garment series, made to register the impact of other people’s hugs and handshakes against my body.
